Agra was one of the capitals amongst a few that were established by the Moghuls. The Mogul emperors were passionate builders and Taj Mahal is the crowning glory of that passion.

Taj Mahal was built when the Mogul Empire was at its peak, by the Emperor Shah Jahan. Taj Mahal, the poetry in white stone, took 22 years to be built. Finest artisans and craftsmen were deployed in its construction. Liberal use of precious and semiprecious stones as inlays on its edifice was done.

The well laid out geometrical patterns of the gardens of Taj Mahal precinct is a delight to see.

Taj Mahal was commissioned by the grief-stricken Emperor Shah. In mourning at the loss of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, the Emperor built Taj Mahal as a tribute to her. After his death, the Emperor was laid to rest alongside his beloved wife. Lacy stone screens surround the cenotaphs.

Ever since its completion, the Taj Mahal has continued to attract visitors from all over the world. Appropriately, it is on the list of the greatest wonders of the world.

Taj Mahal is a bigger brand than India - many would know Taj Mahal first, then India.

Our Taj Mahal tour packages are designed for your trip to this monument of love. Day trip packages for all budgets or overnight packages, using car or train or both - these packages can be the basis of deepening your romance and love.

The source of enduring mystique is the fact that the reason for Taj Mahal’s existence is a true story. Most romantic stories which have found a strong place in posterity are easily surpassed by the story of Taj Mahal.

Why is it so? Primarily due to following reasons:

  • It is a true story.
  • It is a story of husband and wife, not unmarried lovers yearning for each other's company.
  • An Emperor's obsession with one woman when he had a harem.
  • The wonder that such an exquisite building could be built in those times only by manual labour.

Via our Taj Mahal trip packages, you'll have ease, comfort and fun when you visit the Taj Mahal. As we take care of all, you'll be free to focus on the journey, on the landscape, on the sights passing by, and on yourself and your partner.

Many live-in relationships have had a boost by having an engagement ring offered and accepted here with the lovely Taj Mahal as the background. Our accompanying guide is of great help as he takes photographs of this ring ceremony. Our guides are smart enough to leave you with ample space of time as you enjoy the quiet serenity of the Taj Mahal magic moments, holding hand in hand.

Both professional photographers and amateur enthusiastic photographers will find the architecture of Taj Mahal playing intensely with the moods of daylight as well as the moonlight. Sunrise and sunset times are particularly magical. Pertinent to note that in spite of so many images of Taj Mahal are available aplenty, it still has potential to wow even the most jaded and cynical eyes.

Briefly, Agra has the following to offer by way of history and monuments:

First about Taj Mahal:

  1. It is one of the seven wonders of the world See the UNESCO website
  2. It was built in the 17th century.
  3. It was built by Emperor Shah Jahan during his reign, when the Mogul dynasty was at its peak, both in influence and revenues.
  4. It's a monument of love built by a grieving Emperor.
  5. It is a fine example of Indo Islamic blend in architecture.
  6. The view from behind Taj Mahal and across the river is equally spectacular.
  7. It took 22 years to be completed. Nearly 20,000 craftspersons were used in construction.
  8. Precious and semiprecious stones were used as inlays, which the departing British vandalised.
  9. The chief architect was from Persia, now Iran.

Now for other details beyond the Taj Mahal:

  1. Agra Fort: Built by mighty Akbar, grandfather of Shah Jahan, in the late 16th century this fort is a stunning massive red stone structure on the banks of Yamuna river. The Fort complex has many pavilions. Shah Jahan was kept here under house arrest by his son Aurangzeb. Shah Jahan's last years were spent here, watching and admiring the Taj Mahal.
  2. Fatehpur Sikri: Not exactly in Agra, but in many ways a must visit this masculine virile fort/city is located about 45 km from Agra. Again, built by Akbar, this was abandoned due to the paucity of water. The shrine of Sufi saint Salim Chishty is located here, inside the red stone complex. Devouts from all over the world visit the shrine. Tradition is to offer a large cloth spread as an offering. It has an impressive 54 m high main entrance built to mark Akbar's victory in Gujarat
  3. Sikandara: A magnificent tomb where Akbar is buried. Monkeys abound here, aggressively trying to grab the food that you may accidentally show to them.
  4. Baby Taj: A white marble tomb, but diminutive in size when compared to Taj Mahal.
  5. Taj Mahotsav: A 10 days annual cultural event held at Agra during the month of February
